Zoom Video Communications (ZM.O) stated on Monday that, it will be suspending direct sales to all its customers in mainland china on August 23 and adopt a partner-only model to do its business in china.
All zoom customers in china received an email on Monday alerting them about the change and telling them it will provide them with better local support.
According to Reuters who saw the email, Zoom listed Bizconf Communications, Suiri Zhumu Video Conference, and Systec Umeet - as partners who will be able to offer Zoom's commercial service to its customers in China.
Since Zoom came under scrutiny over human rights activists and privacy advocates, it has been distancing itself from China operations. In June Zoom got into a serious trouble when it shut down accounts belonging to a group of U.S -based Chinese activist who were attending online video meeting to memorize the Tienanmen Square massacre done by the Chinese government in 1989.
Later in a blog post, Zoom confirmed it had temporarily shut down the accounts after they were requested by the China’s government and Zoom promised to re-instated
the terminated accounts as well coming up with a new process for handling
similar situations in the future.
