The Indian government has banned more 118 Chinese mobile apps as the relation between the two countries deteriorates deeply due to border disputes. These apps are either based or linked to china, among the most popular apps banned are PUBG Mobile, Alipay, Baidu, Battlegrounds a video game, etc
PUGB mobile video game which is among the most popular game app in India is said to have more than 50 million players in India and it belongs to the Chinese tech giant Tencent. The new ban list also includes about two apps that offer VPN services that enable People to use TikTok that had been banned in June.
On Wednesday, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a statement to support this by saying " This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace,”
News reports suggested that the ban might be connected to the escalated border conflicts between India and China a few days ago which led to a standoff between the two parties as a result of misunderstanding at the border.
It is not the first time for India to ban Chinese app uses in the country but this is the third time now and so far India has banned more than 200 Chinese apps in the country. After a conflict in the China-Indian border in June that left 20 Indian soldiers dead, the Indian government banned TikTok, WeChat, and more than 50 other Chinese apps citing that they were security issues. This incident led to the Indian nationalistic movement by boycotting products made in China which affected the Chinese Tech market in India.
The government of India seems to be hitting china at where it hurts the most by punishing them instantly every time the Chinese side hurt Indian interest, especially at the disputed border. They seem to be denying Chinese companies access to one of the largest tech markets in the world yet most of the Chinese tech companies look at the Indian market as a place they can grow quickly and massively.
