How to speed
up Windows 10
Boost your PC's efficiency and speed with these top awesome tips
How to speed
up Windows 10
Windows operating system is the most common computer operating system and arguably the most coded
operating system from Microsoft, its really amazing other people don’t even
know that there are other operating systems such as Kali Linux, Ubuntu and
others.
Window is very
good in doing a lot of work, very user friendly and has a vast number of
features that require a large number of system resources which with other
factors can lead to slowing down and even at some time freezing of the window.
You might ask a question like what mostly causes windows to slow down very often? Here are a few
things that cause this and as well we will teach you with things you can do to
speed up your Windows operating system. There are things like Bloatware,
temporary files and old or less powerful hardware are among things that
certainly slows down your computer.
Here are 10 of the best ways you can speed up your Windows computer and we know these will improve the efficiency and boost the performance of your computer
This is the simplest
thing but a lot of people take it for guaranteed and don’t even do it at all
therefore leaving their machines running for weeks. Although windows will
automatically put your computer display to sleep but all the processes that
have been stated will continue and its accumulation over time will slow down
your computer.
In order to fix
this, you need shutdown your PC each day once you have finished using it, by
clicking on the Windows button and selecting the 'Power' button
Before shutting
down your PC make sure to close any running programs and save your work however
If your PC has frozen or slowed down to the extent that it can not bring the
Windows menu, manually hold down the Power button until the computer is fully
powered off.
Microsoft constantly
releases updates for Windows 10 which are meant to maximize Windows efficiency,
improve security and fix common bugs that reduce system performance
If machine
performance is lagging behind or even not, open the Windows menu and type
'Update' in the search bar and click 'Check for Updates' to access your settings.
If there is a major update is available, please make sure to save and back up your personal
data before continuing. This will make Your PC to restart several times to
apply all available updates. Later, if it's been a long time since your last update,
make sure to click 'Check for Updates' again after restarting to make sure no
more are available.
3. Check startup
apps
If your PC is a lot of running processes, it can be so much slowed down because many installers
will instruct Windows to run their programs immediately after you logged in
hence causing a big slowdown in your computer.
In order to check
your startup programs, go to Task Manager by these keys (Ctrl + Alt + Del),
then click the 'Startup' tab. Pay close attention to the 'Startup Impact'
values for each program e.g. High, Low, medium etc. you can then spot apps that are likely to slow
your system down and to prevent a particular program from launching, just Right-click
and choose “Disable”
4. Run Disk
Cleanup
Disk Cleanup is a
special utility built-in Windows to
clear out temporary files that accumulate in your PC such as downloaded
program files, offline webpages, and man others.
Click the Windows
menu and type 'Disk Cleanup' in the search bar, then the utility will offer you a
choice of files to get rid of or remove from your system. In order to
remove, just simply mark the checkbox
next to each option. Click 'Clean up system Files' to begin. Disk Cleanup will
calculate the amount of space you will save by doing this simple step.
You should use
this opportunity to remove all the unwanted files you have in your system and I'm advising you to start with “Downloaded files” because most of the time it
seats there for nothing.
5. Remove unused
software
When always buying
a new or used PCs, it comes with a lot of bundled third-party software which
are of big sizes and unnecessary making us to refers to them as “Bloatware”
Then after
acquiring a computer, many users also install software for a specific purpose
and never use it again e.g. designing a newsletter, more than one video editing
apps etc.
This software
becomes redundant in your hard drive, consumes your space and can
reduce your system performance hence slowing down your PC.
If you need to
check your installed apps go to 'Control Panel'>'Programs'>'Programs and
Features'>'Uninstall a Program'.
Once you’re
already there, Right-click on any programs you no longer need and select
'Uninstall'. Windows 10 will ask for permission to make changes to your system
which you will Click 'Yes' to continue or “No” in case you don’t want to
continue.
6. Disable special
effects
There are a lot of
special effects which are very heavy in windows for example translucency and
animations feature that you can do without them. If you sacrify to get rid
of them, in return, you get more speed and good performance so it's your decision
to make.
To take your PC
back to basics, just open the Windows menu and search for 'System', then proceed
to the 'Advanced Settings' tab and select 'Performance Settings'.
Once your there, under
the 'Visual Effects' tab, click the radio button for 'Custom'. From here, you
can unmark the tick boxes next to any visual effects you want to disable.
Click 'Apply' to confirm your changes then your PC setting will apply hence
speeding up your PC.
The general speed of any PC depends on the amount of virtual memory (RAM) a particular computer is having at its disposal. RAM (Random Access Memory) is small hardware in your PC where the operating system OS in this case windows, application programs, and data in current use are kept in order to be easily access by the device's processor.
Windows normally require a minimum of 4GB RAM to run smoothly although this can not be enough for other resource-hungry application such as graphic designs and video gaming applications. The bigger RAM you have the more likely faster your computer is likely to become.
Your PC always has a certain number of RAM 'slots' into which you can insert chips. To find out the type of memory your machine uses, open Task Manager or press shortcut (Ctrl + Alt + Del), then click 'Performance'. The system will display any memory slots in use as well as the type your PC is using e.g. DDR3.
Installing new RAM chips is quite simple that you can do it yourself after buying but if you can’t just take it to any PC repair stores, they will be able to do the hardware upgrade for you.
8. Use an SSD
SSDs (Solid State Drives) are PC sort of Hard Disc but they use Flash memory, the same kind found in USB sticks, and are much faster because they allow for much faster access and writing times than traditional mechanical hard drives which use magnetized disks.
SSDs are expensive per GB than regular hard drives, but if you're are willing to pay the cost, you'll notice a huge improvement in boot time, file access times, and overall system responsiveness.
9. Run System Maintenance
Windows 10 has a special built-in utility which does regular system maintenance tasks such as, scanning for updates, checking for malware, and virus.
In case you have noticed that the system is slowing down and having some with performance issues, you should run maintenance manually by doing the following below;
Open Control Panel then select 'System and Security’ and choose 'Security and Maintenance'. Now click the arrow to expand the maintenance options. From here you can select 'Start Maintenance'. Close but make sure you save any open files before going ahead otherwise you lose whatever work you were doing.
