Facebook Messenger limiting message forwarding to only five people or groups

Facebook Messenger limiting message forwarding to only five people or group

According to News coming to our desk, Facebook messenger will start limiting its users from forwarding messages to multiple numbers of people or groups but allow users to forward messages to only five people or groups at a time.  This development is coming in place as an effort aimed to reduce the viral spread of misinformation as well as the circulation of fake news through its messaging platform that has become so much common recently. In 2018, Facebook took a similar measure to limit the spread of misinformation in WhatsApp messenger starting with a few countries but then later expanded the initiative to all of its global markets therefore as we talk now WhatsApp users can forward messages to only five people or group at a single time and even in April this year Whatsapp further narrowed down the limit of frequently forwarded messages to only one chat at a particular time.

what will this change mean to you?

This new development will mean that you as a Facebook Messenger user will not be able to forward any kind of message to more than five people or groups at a particular time and whenever you try to forward the message to more than five people or groups then the app will display a notification saying "forwarding limit reached"

On Thursday, in a blog post by Jay Sullivan, Director of Product Management, Messenger privacy and safety stated that “Limiting forwarding is an effective way to slow the spread of viral misinformation and harmful content that has the potential to cause real-world harm,”

Not long ago in July, The Messenger app added new privacy features, including the ability to unlock the messenger app on iOS devices using touch ID or biometrics fingerprints as well as facial features. This update was meant to stop an unauthorized person from accessing another person messenger app without permission although up to this very moment we don't have any clue when the same sort of feature is coming to Andriod devices. The tech giant has also announced that it will start blurring photos received from unknown users so as to enable the receiving user to read the content before he or she decides to reply, block or report the unknown photo sender.

Facebook is taking a lot of moves this year and is seriously fighting misinformation, fake news, hate contents, scam contents, and other things going on in its platform which have become massively huge. During this year during the pandemic, Facebook users went up to 3 billion therefore in order for them to have full control over the platform, they are rolling a lot of programs to enhance its efficiency, security and enforce community standard. As New Zealand and the US election draws closer, it is employing more strict policies to combat misinformation or any other action on its platform that can manipulate its users politically and for instance, the tech giant has announced that in the U.S, it will restrict political ads a week before the election in November as well after the election and will remove particularly any post that conveys misinformation about COVID-19 and voting.
